Donors of God’s Love
A couple of years ago, I had the incredible privilege of donating my bone marrow to someone in England — perhaps even a royal! As I lay there while the bone marrow cells were being extracted, a small esky sat beside my bed, ready to carry those cells across the world to someone I would most likely never meet. As the nurses carefully placed that tiny package of cells into the esky, I remember praying: “Lord, let life flow from my body into theirs. Heal them!”
And in that moment, something profound struck me. It was as though God revealed deep within my heart that this is exactly what we are called to do as Christians: to become carriers of life. We are called to share what God has given us so others may live. Just as my body was able to donate something physical to bring healing to another person, so too are we invited to become donors of God’s love, hope, and the Holy Spirit to those around us. I was reminded that the Holy Spirit is not meant to be kept to ourselves. The Spirit is a gift meant to be shared. God desires to breathe life into others through us.
Growing up, I personally didn’t really have a relationship with the Holy Spirit. I knew about God, knew some prayers, and had some sense of faith, but I didn’t know the Holy Spirit personally or understand the closeness and power of His presence. However, over time, and especially from the moment of inviting the Holy Spirit to be active in my life, something changed in me. I began to know Jesus personally, the Eucharist came alive, my prayer came alive — I CAME ALIVE! My heart was softened, and I was able to grow in my faith, receive healing, and deepen my relationship with Jesus. I discovered that the Holy Spirit is alive, active, personal, and constantly drawing near to us — we just have to ask!
Jesus says in the Gospel of Luke, “If you then, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.” This has become one of my favourite Scriptures because it reminds me how simple it really is. We don’t have to earn the Holy Spirit; we don’t have to be perfect. We simply have to ask. Yet so often, we try to fill the emptiness or the gap in our hearts with other things — success, addictions, social media, achievements, relationships, or distractions. We can find ourselves searching elsewhere for life, peace, and fulfilment, yet still deeply thirsty. Deep down, what our hearts are truly longing for is God Himself. And it is in these moments of emptiness, longing, pain, grief, exhaustion, or desperation that Jesus gently invites us to turn toward Him and cry out for the Holy Spirit. He invites us to open our hearts and allow God to fill us.
When we allow the Holy Spirit to fill us, we too can become people who carry life to others. Just as those bone marrow cells travelled across the world to bring life into another body, so too can the Spirit of God flow from our lives into the hearts of those around us — bringing healing, hope, peace, joy and transformation. Let’s continue to ride the wave of the Holy Spirit throughout this Pentecost season and become HOLY SPIRIT DONORS.
We want to thank all our donors who allow us to live our lives fully so that we too can become spiritual donors to others. Thank you to all those who support us, love us, give financially, and most importantly through your prayers. Your generosity allows us to continue bringing the life and love of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit to the people that we minister to. We are truly grateful and WE THANK YOU!
