Imagine the best view you have ever seen… where were you and what did you see?
Were you sitting on a beach and watching the constancy of the waves as they constantly broke upon the shore?
Had you climbed a mountain, rising to the top and looking out to see a panoramic view of trees, rivers, hills, cities and more?
Were you watching a sunrise or sunset, awestruck by the colours?
Were you gazing into the eyes of your child the first time you held them, contemplating the wonder of creation?
Perhaps it was sitting in Adoration gazing at the Lord and deeply feeling his presence.
Do you ever wonder what God would say if he was speaking about the best view he has ever seen? I will let you in on a secret – I think God would say, The best thing I have ever seen is you. It delights me to see you living life to the full, to witness you living your life empowered by me and my love.
Sometimes, it can be hard to see ourselves and our lives as God does – we can tend to have on our own cloudy glasses which prevent us from seeing the truth of who we are – our gifts, strengths, yes, and even our weaknesses. But it is in this rich tapestry of who we are that God loves and breathes his life into. It is from this place that we are called and loved into life.
When you think of discovering and moving forward in your vocation, or in any major decision, what immediately arises within you? Is it joy, is it fear, is it frustration at not knowing, is it peace? Sometimes we might look at ourselves and think we are not living life to the full. At times that may have an element of truth, but it is important to remember that we do not have to have it all together before we can move forward on our vocational journey – we just need to take a step and to trust and believe that God delights in what he sees, saying to us Ýou are the best view I have ever seen’.
