One of the ways that the sisters engage with young people is through our High School Ministry. We run and coordinate school retreats and participate in religious education classes when invited. Topics that are covered in these classes included discernment, vocations, religious life, evangelisation topics, culture and faith and sexuality.
The Canberra-based MGL Sisters have been going into a local all-girls high school weekly since 2000 to run a lunchtime program for the students. This program, called ‘The Thursday Thing’, is for young girls to gather with the Sisters to look at the issues that they face today as well as getting to know God. This involves talks, games, prayer and an opportunity for the students to get in touch with God’s love and to just hang out with the Sisters!
The Sisters are looking forward to returning to this ministry in June. At the moment they are running retreats for girls in a local Catholic High School in the Parramatta Diocese, Sydney.
